About the Role

Position Overview:
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides hands-on care and support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This role focuses on promoting independence, assisting with daily living activities, and ensuring a safe and supportive environment. The DSP fosters positive relationships with clients while following individualized care plans to enhance their quality of life.

• Provides direct care to those with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
• Performs personal care tasks and encourages self-help activities, including assistance with basic personal hygiene and grooming, feeding, and ambulation, medical monitoring, and health care related tasks.
• Fosters positive relationships between caretakers and individuals served.
• Ensures client safety and maintains a safe environment.
• Reminds and assists clients with self-administration of medications (with proper training).
• Reports changes in client's condition or family situation to administrators, supervisors, and owners.
• Documents services provided weekly (weekly notes).
• Assist with home management functions such as light housekeeping, laundry, bed making, and cleaning.
• Assist with planning meals, shopping for groceries, preparing and serving food/meals, feeding and clean-up.
• Accompanies clients to scheduled appointments and transports clients or running errands for clients and other community outings.
• Assists with toileting, including bedpans, urinals, and commode chairs as necessary.
• Check in on clients' every 2 hours and as needed throughout the shift with documentation of rounds.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications/Skills

  • Ability to work in a group home, residential settings

  • Communication Skills (verbal and written) with all levels of personnel, internal, and external to the company

  • Ability to handle physical aspects of the job, including bending, stooping, lifting, pushing, pulling, reaching, and walking for periods of time

  • Must be able to pass a drug, criminal, and adult/child maltreatment screenings



Education, Experience, & Licensing Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent

  • 18 years of age or older

  • Valid Driver's License

  • Social Security Card

  • CPR Required within 30 days of hire
